Great black backed gull
As one of the biggest birds you can find at Runde, this gull is fairly common to see. They are not a specialized puffin-hunters, but in Scotland it has been assumed that the flocking behaviour of puffins is to protect themself from the great black-backed gulls. On Runde it is not very often to see the great black-backed gull at “Lundeura”. Keep your eyes open when you drive over the bridge to Runde, there is a good chance that they are sitting on the railing!
The great black-backed gull is not a picky eater, and often searches for food in the tidal zone. As an opportunistic hunter, they will eat everything from small birds to fish. They can even feed on small mammals if they are able to catch them!
