Sunday Lecture April 12 // When Hospitality Becomes Environmentally Incorrect: Alien Species in the Oceans Around Us
.png)
On Sunday, April 12th, we invite you again to a lecture at Runde Environmental Center!
This time it takes Runde -Lise Chapman researches the topic of alien species in the ocean – everything from Japanese driftwood and ghost crabs to Pacific oysters and harbor porpoises. These are organisms that do not actually belong here, but have been moved – usually as a result of human activity.
How do these species affect our nature? And is it really that dangerous in a world that is constantly changing anyway? Can we instead see them as new resources – like king crab?
Answers are rarely simple, but we hope you will join us to learn more about why some species spread so effectively, be fascinated by unusual biology – and participate in an important discussion about what actually constitutes "untouched nature" in the ocean around us.
Welcome to a thought-provoking and topical lecture!
Café and exhibition open from 12:00 - 17:00. Serving dinner, coffee, cakes and ice cream.
The lecture starts at 3:00 PM. Free admission.
