Sunday lecture - Hans Strøm and the sea

Welcome to the season opening with lectures and Sunday buffet

Hans Ström and the sea

What did the nature of Sunnmøre look like three hundred years ago? Were there the same fish and the same seabirds? Or has life in and around the sea changed in the last three hundred years?

This year marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of naturalist and public educator Hans Strøm.
In the book Physiskog Oeconomisk Beskrivelse over Fogderiet Søndmør, located in the Diocese of Bergen in Norway (1762 and 1766), he described Sunnmøre's nature and culture in great detail.

In this conversation, the audience will hear about how Strøm depicted life in the sea and different forms of fishing 300 years ago, and whether naturalists can use this knowledge in today's research. The conversation with marine scientist Nils-Roar Hareide from Runde The Environmental Center is led by Professor Randi Neteland (Volda University College).
